INDY NXT by Firestone Preview: INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix (Entry List) – Friday, August 11th, 2023 4:50PM (ET) Peacock – The INDY NXT by Firestone championship battle has tilted towards Christian Rasmussen as the Danish driver leads Nolan Siegel by 45 points and Hunter McElrea by 59 points. Juncos Hollinger Racing dominated the weekend in May with Matteo Nannini taking a shockingly dominant pole and victory but he is no longer with the team. Here is the box score from the race at IMS earlier this season.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Gallagher Grand Prix – Saturday, August 12th, 2023 2:00PM (ET) NBC – After another exciting weekend in Nashville, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES rolls into Brickyard weekend with Alex Palou holding an 84 point lead over Josef Newgarden in the championship with just four races remaining. Last year’s Indy Lights champion Linus Lundqvist is back in the Meyer Shank Racing No. 60 this weekend substituting for the still-not-cleared Simon Pagenaud. Previous driver performance at the circuit shows seven winners in the field in Will Power (5), Scott Dixon (1), Colton Herta (1), Newgarden (1), Palou (1), Alexander Rossi (1), and Rinus VeeKay (1). Palou and Rossi are the two most recent winners. Looking at the box scores from the 2023 GMR GP and 2022 Gallagher GP on the IMS road course, Rossi and Christian Lundgaard finished in the Top 5 in both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, that duo is joined by Palou, Newgarden, Felix Rosenqvist, Scott Dixon, and Graham Rahal.

My pick to win: Alex Palou – It’s difficult to NOT pick Alex Palou on a road or street course at the moment. After the dominance he put on display at this venue in May, he’s an easy pick for me this weekend.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Alexander Rossi $28, Colton Herta $27, Christian Lundgaard $27, & Linus Lundqvist $18 – Rossi and Lundgaard’s recent performances at this circuit have been excellent and provide great value at their price points. Herta dominated both races last year and figures to have a stronger weekend now though he has had a strangely quiet year. Lundqvist is an excellent value at just $18 after impressing in his debut last weekend.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Honda Indy Toronto – Sunday, July 16, 2023 1:30PM (ET) Peacock – INDYCAR makes its annual trek north this weekend for what should be an exciting weekend in Toronto. This week’s race television broadcast will be on Peacock in the United States so make sure your subscription is active. Previous driver performance at the circuit shows four former winners entered in Scott Dixon (4), Will Power (3), Josef Newgarden (2), and Ryan Hunter-Reay (1). Dixon and the injured Simon Pagenaud are the two most recent winners at the circuit. Pagenaud will be replaced by Meyer Shank Racing’s IMSA star Tom Blomqvist this weekend. Looking at the box scores from those races in 2022 and 2019 races at Toronto, only Felix Rosenqvist and Dixon finished in the Top 5 in both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, those two are joined by Colton Herta, Graham Rahal, and Newgarden.

My pick to win: Alex Palou – This preview routinely has copy/paste elements so I’ll just update what I wrote entering Mid-Ohio weekend…”How can you pick against Palou right now? Outside of being torpedoed by Rinus VeeKay in pitlane in Indianapolis he’s been unstoppable with authoritative victories in three (four) of the last four (five) races and a massive 74 (110) point lead in the championship.”

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Alex Palou $33, Felix Rosenqvist $25, Marcus Armstrong $24, & Tom Blomqvist $18 – You know my thoughts on Palou and likely feel the same. Rosenqvist still carries a strong street course pedigree and is due for a great race result. The same could be said for Armstrong on deserving a race result to go his way and he’ll have a great car. Blomqvist is an elite driver with a lot to learn this weekend but will likely have a great mindset to safely bring home the best result possible.

Hunter McElrea is the defending race winner at Mid-Ohio and it’s certainly time for him to make a charge as he’s 56 points behind heading into the weekend. But it’s been more unpredictable than ever in the series this season so who knows what to expect beyond excitement this weekend.

As of Thursday of race week there’s plenty of rain and potential for storms in the forecast which could create a lot of surprises. Previous driver performance at the circuit shows nine former winners entered in Scott Dixon (6), Helio Castroneves (2), Josef Newgarden (2), Graham Rahal (1), Simon Pagenaud (1), Alexander Rossi (1), Will Power (1), Colton Herta (1), and Scott McLaughlin (1). McLaughlin and Newgarden are the two most recent winners at the circuit. Looking at the box scores from the 2022 and 2021 races at Mid-Ohio, only Alex Palou and Dixon finished in the Top 5 in both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, those two are joined by Marcus Ericsson and Newgarden.

A shakeup at Ed Carpenter Racing will be intriguing to watch as Ryan Hunter-Reay takes over the No. 20 ride from Conor Daly. Previous driver performance at the circuit shows six former winners entered in Scott Dixon (2), Josef Newgarden (2), Will Power (1), Alexander Rossi (1), Felix Rosenqvist (1), and Alex Palou (1). Newgarden and Palou are the two most recent winners at the circuit. Looking at the box scores from the 2022 and 2021 races at Road America, only Colton Herta and Romain Grosjean finished in the Top 5 in both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, those two are joined by Marcus Ericsson, Rossi, and Dixon.

My pick to win: Alex Palou – It’s hard to pick against Palou right now. He’s been dominant in authoritative wins on the IMS road course and at Detroit with only a pit lane incident, not of his own fault, to blame for not being in the mix for an Indy 500 win. He’s been great at Road America before and no reason to expect anything but the same this weekend.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Colton Herta $28, Romain Grosjean $27, Kyle Kirkwood $26, & Agustin Canapino $18 – It’s once again hard to build a complete team with one of the high dollar favorites included so I’m going for solid over spectacular here. But there’s plenty of upside. Andretti qualified great at this track last year and their trio of Herta, Grosjean, and Kirkwood should all be in the conversation for at least Top 10’s and likely better. One of Grosjean or Herta has to break through eventually this season. Canapino is probably the most solid of the $18 group but watch practice and qualifying close for the best budget pick of those options.

HMD Motorsports’ Danial Frost won the ultra-exciting opening round in a drama-filled race. He stands to be a favorite this weekend as the HMD cars finished 1-2 at Barber last year.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix– Sunday, April 30, 2023 3:00PM (ET) NBC – An exciting 2023 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season returns this weekend two weeks after Andretti Autosport’s Kyle Kirkwood’s dominant performance on the Streets of Long Beach. Previous driver performance at Barber Motorsports Park shows six former winners entered in Josef Newgarden (3), Will Power (2), Pato O’Ward (1), Alex Palou (1), Simon Pagenaud (1), and Helio Castroneves (1). O’Ward (2022) and Palou (2021) are the two most recent winners. Looking at the box scores from 2022 and 2021, four drivers have finished in the Top 5 of both races in O’Ward, Palou, Power, and Scott Dixon. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, those four are joined by Rinus VeeKay, Graham Rahal, Romain Grosjean, and Alexander Rossi.

My pick to win: Scott Dixon – Dixon has done everything except earn a P1 at Barber. He’s never finished outside of the Top 10 and has only started outside of the Top 10 once. He’s finished second an astonishing six times with nine podiums. There’s a great chance this could finally be his year!

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Scott Dixon $30, Rinus VeeKay $24, David Malukas $24, & Marcus Armstrong $22 – You know my thoughts on Dixon. VeeKay should have won here last year if not for a mistake forgetting to use push-to-pass on an out lap and finished P6 the year before. Malukas looks like a contender every week and could be a solid choice for his price. Armstrong has been fast and his Ganassi car will be a rocket this weekend as this is one of the better circuits for Ganassi and that’s saying something.

Gone are the names that have dominated the last couple seasons but plenty of talent remains in a 19 car field for the opener this weekend. With new tire compounds, Firestone is now the tire manufacturer rather than Cooper Tires, and all of the new drivers it’s hard to tell exactly what to expect this weekend but I’d say look out for Andretti Autosport and Hunter McElrea as the favorite this weekend.

McLaughlin (2022) and Herta (2021) are the two most recent winners. Looking at the box scores from 2022 and 2021, only Herta finished in the Top 5 of both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, Herta is joined by Power, Rinus VeeKay, Scott Dixon, and Marcus Ericsson.

My pick to win: Scott McLaughlin – McLaughlin was so good at this circuit last year and figures to be strong again as he looks to mount a serious championship effort. Penske cars are historically quick here and you can’t go wrong with any of their trio of drivers.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Scott McLaughlin $29, Alexander Rossi $26, Rinus VeeKay $24, Marcus Armstrong $21 – You know my thoughts on McLaughlin. Rossi has been quick here before and will be looking for an impressive debut with his new Arrow McLaren team. VeeKay has finished in P6 and P9 over the last two years starting no worse than 7th. Armstrong turned heads in testing, is in a Ganassi car, and has pit stop experience coming from F2 making him a solid choice from the rookie class.

Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Preview: Indy Lights Grand Prix of Monterey (Entry List) – Race 1 Saturday, September 10, 2022 3:20PM (ET) Peacock & Race 2 Sunday, September 11, 2022 12:55PM (ET) Peacock – Linus Lundqvist will win the championship this weekend simply by showing up but there should be plenty of competitiveness through the field this weekend as the Andretti Autosport team and Lundqvist’s teammate Benjamin Pedersen have stepped up over the second half of the season. Nolan Siegel makes his series debut this weekend with HMD Motorsports while Flinn Lazier will hope his races last much longer than a lap after contact ended his day early on his debut at Portland. The battle to watch this weekend will be for second place as the championship as positions 2 through 5 right are tight heading into the weekend as Matthew Brabham leads Hunter McElrea, Sting Ray Robb, and Benjamin Pedersen.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey – Sunday, September 11, 2022 2:40PM (ET) NBC – What appeared to be one of the greatest NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship battles of all time concludes this weekend with perhaps not as much pre-event drama after Will Power’s strong close to the season. However, there are still five drivers heading into the weekend with a mathematical chance at the title as Power leads Josef Newgarden (-20), Scott Dixon (-20), Marcus Ericsson (-39), and Scott McLaughlin (-41). Power needs only to finish the Top 3 to control his own destiny in clinching the championship.

Previous driver performance at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca shows just two former winners entered this weekend in Colton Herta (2019 & 2021) and Helio Castroneves (2000). Looking at the box scores from 2021 and 2019, only Herta finished in the Top 10 of both races. Herta won each race from pole. The Top 5 in qualifying last year was represented by Andretti Autosport (x2), Team Penske, Chip Ganassi Racing, and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing so expect a multitude of teams to be competitive as always. Of the entered drivers, the Top 5 in laps led at the circuit are Herta 174, Castroneves 92, Power 6, Grosjean 4, and Dixon 2.

My picks to win: Race – Colton Herta & Championship – Will Power – Herta has absolutely dominated the two most recent events so I’m considering this a near lock until proven otherwise. If he steals the pole and race winner points, it really makes things tough on the rest of the field to surpass Power if he runs into trouble. Power has been so strong lately that I expect him to qualify up front as he usually does and keep himself clean for a podium finish to seal the title.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power $30, Colton Herta $29, David Malukas $20, & Christian Lundgaard $20  – You know my thoughts on Power and Herta. The rookie of the year battle between Malukas and Lundgaard should be a fascinating battle and each of the duo has been super fast lately. They’re excellent value picks this weekend to go with whatever star power you want from the bigger teams.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Gallagher Grand Prix – Saturday, July 30, 2022 12:00PM (ET) NBC – The NTT INDYCAR SERIES returns to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for its third race at the venue this season as part of a shared weekend with NASCAR. The championship battle remains tight as just 44 points separate the Top 6 in the championship. Those six are Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson, Will Power, Josef Newgarden, Scott Dixon, Pato O’Ward, and Alex Palou.

Previous driver experience on the IMS road course shows six former winners in the field in Power (5), Simon Pagenaud (3), Dixon (1), Newgarden (1), Rinus VeeKay (1), and Colton Herta (1). Herta, Power, and VeeKay have won each of the last three races. Looking at the box scores from the 2022 GMR GP, 2021 BMSC GP, and 2021 GMR GP, no one finished in the Top 5 of all three races. A Team Penske car started on the front row of all three races. Only Ericsson finished in the Top 10 in all three races.

My pick to win: Will Power – Power won this race last year and earned the pole for the race in May. Chaos reigned supreme in the May race once rain and storms hit so he didn’t get the win there but you know he’ll be fast. Team Penske always has a strong say in the result of these races and I expect Power to be their lead driver this weekend.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power $30, Scott Dixon $30, Christian Lundgaard $20, & Callum Ilott $19 – You know my thoughts on Power. Dixon had been a consistent Top 10 finisher nearly every time at this venue until the last couple races, but has started his late season push to get himself back into the championship conversation and figures to be a strong factor this weekend. Lundgaard has P4 and P8 qualifying efforts in his two races at the circuit and was lightning fast here in this event last year in his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES race. Ilott continues to impress and was P7 in qualifying and P8 in the race in May.

Drama is in the air all around the paddock after the Andretti teammates all made contact at Mid-Ohio and the Alex Palou/CGR/AMSP situation mid-week.

Previous driver experience at Toronto shows four former winners in the field in Scott Dixon (3), Will Power (3), Josef Newgarden (2), and Simon Pagenaud (1). Pagenaud and Dixon are the last two winners at the circuit. Looking at the box scores from the last two races in 2019 and 2018, Dixon and Pagenaud each finished in the Top 5 in both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, that duo is joined by Alexander Rossi and Newgarden, . The active Top 5 in laps led at the circuit are Dixon (200), Power (162), Newgarden (120), Pagenaud (114), and Helio Castroneves (101).

My pick to win: Will Power – Team Penske has won all three street course events so far this season so look out for them again this weekend. Power has been extremely fast and this is obviously one of his better tracks.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power $30, Josef Newgarden $30, Conor Daly $21, & David Malukas $19 – You know my thoughts on Power and Newgarden is an equal threat. I had to build a team around having two Team Penske drivers this week. Daly enjoys the Toronto circuit and should provide good value at $21 with any good luck at all. Malukas has been quick and coming off an outstanding qualifying performance at Detroit during the last street course weekend.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio – Sunday, July 3, 2022 12:30PM (ET) NBC – The NTT INDYCAR SERIES kicks off July 4th weekend at legendary Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for what should be an exciting weekend in a close championship race. The Top 5 in the championship are separated by less than 50 points as Marcus Ericsson leads Will Power, Josef Newgarden, Pato O’Ward, and Alex Palou.

Previous driver experience at Mid-Ohio shows eight former winners in the field in Scott Dixon (6), Helio Castroneves (2), Newgarden (2), Graham Rahal (1), Simon Pagenaud (1), Alexander Rossi (1), Power (1), and Colton Herta (1). Newgarden, Herta, and Power are the last three winners at the circuit. Looking at the box scores from 2021, 2020 Race 2 and 2020 Race 1, a few interesting observations can be found. Rossi finished in the Top 5 in all three races. Newgarden, Ericsson, and Rahal each finished in the Top 5 in two of the three races. Rossi, Newgarden, Dixon, and Rahal each finished in the Top 10 of all three races. My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Josef Newgarden $30, Marcus Ericsson $31, Kyle Kirkwood $19, & Callum Ilott $18  – You know my thoughts on Newgarden. Ericsson’s consistency has been stellar lately and this has been one of his better tracks. Kirkwood owned this track in the Road to Indy and provides good value at $19 if you want to front load your team with difficult pricing. Ilott and JHR have to get the finish their increased speed merits at some point, right?
