INDY NXT by Firestone Preview: INDY NXT by Firestone OUTFRONT Showdown (Entry List) – Saturday, August 26th, 2023 3:25PM (ET) Peacock – The INDY NXT by Firestone championship battle remains tight as Christian Rasmussen leads Hunter McElrea by 33 points. Nolan Siegel (-55) and Jacob Abel (-57) aren’t all that far behind if results go well for them this weekend and I expect Jacob Abel to contend for the win after his strong oval performance last month at Iowa. Matthew Brabham won this event last year with Andretti Autosport and returns this weekend with Juncos Hollinger Racing.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Bommarito Automotive Group 500 – Sunday, August 27th, 2023 3:30PM (ET) NBC – Alex Palou has all but sealed the 2023 NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship as he heads into the weekend holding a 101 point lead over Scott Dixon and 105 over Josef Newgarden with just three races remaining. Last year’s Indy Lights champion Linus Lundqvist will make his NTT INDYCAR SERIES oval debut this weekend in the Meyer Shank Racing No. 60 this weekend substituting for the still-not-cleared Simon Pagenaud. Conor Daly replaces Jack Harvey in the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing No. 30 by team decision. Previous driver performance at the circuit shows five winners in the field in Newgarden (5), Dixon (1), Takuma Sato (1), Will Power (1), and Helio Castroneves (1). Newgarden has won the lats three races at the venue and is looking to finish off a streak of winning every oval race this season. Looking at the box scores from the 2022 and 2021 at World Wide Technology Raceway, Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin, and Pato O’Ward finished in the Top 5 in both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, that trio is joined by Sato, Power, and Marcus Ericsson. The entered Top 5 in laps led at the circuit are Newgarden (484), Power (329), Castroneves (271), Dixon (251), and Sato (167).

My pick to win: Josef Newgarden – It’s Josef Newgarden on an oval…don’t overthink it until given reason to otherwise.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Pato O’Ward $28, Takuma Sato $27, David Malukas $23, & Devlin DeFrancesco $22 – It’s difficult to add Newgarden or any of the Penske cars to your team as expensive as they are regardless of their likely dominance. O’Ward should be a big factor for a podium and don’t be surprised if Sato and Malukas contend for Top 5’s as well with their history at the circuit. Devlin was solid here last year and coming off the best weekend of his career at IMS.

Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Preview: Cooper Tires Indy Lights Oval Challenge of St. Louis – Spotter Guide – Race 1: Friday, August 20, 2021 6:30PM (ET) Peacock & Race 2: Saturday, August 21, 2021 6:30PM (ET) Peacock – Indy Lights returns for their first race since Mid-Ohio over July 4th weekend for their only only weekend of the season. Andretti Autosport’s Kyle Kirkwood maintains a slender lead over championship rivals David Malukas and Linus Lundqvist as we head toward the homestretch and the final eight races of the season at four venues. Expect the Andretti Autosport cars to be strong this weekend with the team’s experience and performance in Thursday testing. I’d expect Kyle Kirkwood to win at least one of the two races during the weekend with Devin DeFrancesco to maybe step up and win his first career race in Indy Lights.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Bommarito Automotive Group 500 – Saturday, August 21, 2021 8:00PM (ET) NBCSN – The NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ final weekend of the year on an oval will have 24 entries highlighted by the oval debut for Romain Grosjean. The championship battle is as close as it’s been in some time after Alex Palou’s mechanical issue to end his day early at the Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix as Pato O’Ward is now just 21 points behind and the Top 5 are separated by just 62 points.

Previous driver experience at World Wide Technology Raceway shows four former winners in the field in Josef Newgarden (2), Scott Dixon (1), Will Power (1), and Takuma Sato (1). Dixon and Newgarden won the two races in the doubleheader in September last year. Looking at the box scores from 2020 Race 1 and Race 2, O’Ward and Dixon each finished in the Top 5 in both races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, that duo is joined by Rinus VeeKay, Colton Herta, Felix Rosenqvist, Conor Daly, and Sato. The active Top 5 in laps led at the circuit are Newgarden (268), Dixon (251), Power (200), Sato (145), and O’Ward (130).

My pick to win: Race: Scott Dixon – All of the Chip Ganassi Racing cars were strong at Gateway last year and Scott Dixon is going to win another race in 2021. Why not this weekend, especially as he’s inched himself closer to championship contention? Dixon has never started worse than P8 here with four Top 5’s in six starts so you know he’ll be a factor for the win.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Scott Dixon, Rinus VeeKay, Takuma Sato, & Scott McLaughlin – You know my thoughts on Dixon. VeeKay was excellent on race day in this race last year. Sato has finished in the Top 10 in his last four Gateway races with a win and P2 mixed in. Team Penske cars are typically strong at this track and McLaughlin was a quick learner on the oval at Texas earlier this year. I’d say watch a combination of McLaughlin, Conor Daly, and Grosjean close in practice and qualifying for the best of some budget values.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Bommarito Automotive Group 500 – Race 1 Saturday, August 29, 2020 3:00PM (ET) NBCSN & Race 2 Sunday, August 30, 2020 3:00PM (ET) NBCSN – The NTT INDYCAR SERIES enters another doubleheader weekend after a busy two weeks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to a venue where the recent Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato won last year. Two races in the heat of the day in the Midwest sun will be a grueling experience for the teams, drivers, officials, and even fans as this event is traditionally raced at night.

Previous driver experience at World Wide Technology Raceway shows three former winners in the field in Josef Newgarden (1), Will Power (1), and Takuma Sato (1). The active Top 5 in laps led at the venue are Scott Dixon (223), Newgarden (220), Power (99), Santino Ferrucci (97), and Sato (65). The two most recent winners are Sato and Power. Looking at the box scores from 2019 and 2018, only Simon Pagenaud has finished in the Top 5 in each of the last two races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, Pagenaud is joined by Sato and Newgarden.

My picks to win: Will Power & Simon Pagenaud – The Team Penske cars have started on the first three rows of the grid in each of the past two races and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue. We know the Penske cars are fast everywhere and that seems to be especially true at Gateway. I look for Will Power to get his first win of 2020 and Simon Pagenaud to win as well.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power, Takuma Sato, Tony Kanaan, & Alex Palou – You know my thoughts on Power. It’s too tough to get two Penske drivers into your team without seeing practice, but still may be the way to go with a few $21 options. I like Takuma Sato this weekend hot off his 500 win and previous history at this track. Tony Kanaan should provide good value with his experience on ovals and ability to take advantage of any opportunities that may fall his way. I like Palou the most out of the “budget” options as he’s been fast everywhere and really seems to enjoy the challenge of ovals. His Dale Coyne Racing team has been good here.

Indy Lights Preview: Cooper Tires Indy Lights Oval Challenge of St. Louis (Entry List), Race – Saturday, August 24, 2019 4:25PM (ET) – The second and final Indy Lights oval race of the season will be a tough one to call with limited history to call on. Results from 2018 show Andretti Autosport dominated at Gateway last year as Ryan Norman grabbed the win over teammates Herta and O’Ward. Based on that and Norman’s strong showing in the Freedom 100, I think Norman is the favorite this weekend. Freedom 100 winner and championship leader Oliver Askew should be strong but Gateway is a difficult track for a rookie. Juncos Racing struggled here last year with Franzoni so VeeKay may just need to manage the deficit and give himself a chance at the next two circuits on the calendar. My pick to win: Ryan Norman

The Top 5 in laps led at Gateway are Scott Dixon (223), Newgarden (170), Power (98), Tony Kanaan (21), and Simon Pagenaud (13). Looking at the box scores from 2018 and 2017, only Dixon and Pagenaud have finished in the Top 5 in each of the last two years. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, those two are joined by Rossi and Newgarden. My pick to win: Will Power – When Power gets hot, he’s as good as anyone in the field and might be the best in the business at building a win streak. As the defending winner at Gateway and winner last time out at Pocono, I like Power’s chances this weekend.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Sebastien Bourdais, & Colton Herta – You know my thoughts on Power. Hunter-Reay is due for some good luck on his side and has shown speed everywhere. Bourdais is a solid pick at $24, but keep an eye out for Ferrucci if he out qualifies his teammate. Herta has the pace and just needs to get to the end of the race. He drove well at Gateway last year in Lights.
