NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg – Sunday, October 25, 2020 2:30PM (ET) NBC – For the 15th consecutive season, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion will be decided at the season finale as Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden will battle to decide the 2020 champion. Dixon’s giant lead is down to just 32 points, but that’s still a huge mountain for Newgarden to climb now that double points are NOT on offer for the finale. This weekend will mark the NTT INDYCAR SERIES debut of V8 Supercars legend Scott McLaughlin with Team Penske in the No. 3 entry.

Previous driver experience at St. Pete shows four former winners in the field in Sebastien Bourdais (2), Will Power (2), Newgarden (1), and Graham Rahal (1). The two most recent winners are Newgarden (2019) and Bourdais (2018). Looking at the box scores from the last two St. Pete races in 2019 and 2018, only Alexander Rossi has finished in the Top 5 in each of the last two races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, Rossi is joined by Newgarden, Dixon, Power, and James Hinchcliffe.

My picks to win: Race: Will Power & Champion: Scott Dixon – Will Power is the undisputed king of NTT INDYCAR SERIES street course qualifying and should be an excellent bet for pole this weekend. Coming off a strong showing in Harvest GP Race 2, I like Power for the win this weekend. When it comes to the championship, I think Dixon delivers the Top 9 finish he needs even if Newgarden grabs the win and maximum bonus points. This isn’t Dixon’s strongest track, but he’s so good at avoiding trouble and taking advantage of any opportunity that comes his way regardless of adversity that I don’t think this will be decided by Newgarden’s result. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Newgarden dominates this weekend and maximizes his points, or maybe gets some helpful “team orders” late to boost his position from his Team Penske teammates, but it would be surprising to see Dixon end up in the amount of trouble necessary for that to matter.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power, Alexander Rossi, Rinus VeeKay, & Sebastien Bourdais – You know my thoughts on Power. Rossi has put together a strong second half of the season and I like his chances for a podium this weekend. VeeKay is a must-have before the weekend based on his speed everywhere at just $21. I like Bourdais to round out this lineup, he has great results at St. Pete in the past and this is a circuit where he may be able to outperform his car to some extent.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: INDYCAR Harvest GP – Race 1 Friday, October 2, 2020 3:30PM (ET) USA & Race 2 Saturday, October 3, 2020 2:30PM (ET) NBC – The big story line of the weekend has to be the surprising number of driver changes since the last event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Bourdais is back in the series in the AJ Foyt Racing No. 14 for the rest of this season and next while Kellett shifts to the sporadically entered No. 41. Veach is out with Hinchcliffe in the Andretti Autosport No. 26 for the rest of the season. Castroneves is a medical substitute for Askew in the Arrow McLaren SP No. 7 for this weekend. Karam and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are back this weekend in the No. 24.

Previous driver experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course shows three former winners in the field in Simon Pagenaud (3), Will Power (3), and Scott Dixon (1). The active Top 5 in laps led at the venue are Power (210), Pagenaud (68), Dixon (66), Graham Rahal (36), and Josef Newgarden (25). The two most recent winners are Dixon and Pagenaud. Looking at the box scores from the last two INDYCAR races in July 2020 and May 2019, only Dixon and Pagenaud have finished in the Top 5 in each of the last two races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, that duo is joined by Rahal and Santino Ferrucci.

My picks to win: Will Power & Scott Dixon – Power is almost guaranteed to win the pole for one of these two races this weekend and finally got his terrible luck off his back with a dominant Race 1 win last time out at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Dixon is always in the mix in this race and will no doubt be eager to grab a win and cement his chances for a SIXTH NTT INDYCAR SERIES title.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power, Graham Rahal, Jack Harvey, & Santino Ferrucci – You know my thoughts on Power. It’s hard to put a competitive lineup together with two of the absolute favorites, but Graham Rahal lives on or near the podium at this track. Jack Harvey has a couple great races and qualifying efforts at the venue and is well overdue for a big result this season. Ferrucci has back-to-back Top 10’s here is a good value pick to finish out your lineup..

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio – Race 1 Saturday, September 12, 2020 4:30PM (ET) NBCSN & Race 2 Sunday, September 13, 2020 1:00PM (ET) NBC – The NTT INDYCAR SERIES enters another doubleheader weekend with fans in attendance at the beautiful Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Just five events remain on the (current) NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule so if anyone is going to catch championship leader Scott Dixon the time is now, at what just happens to be Dixon’s best circuit…

Previous driver experience at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course shows six former winners in the field in Scott Dixon (6), Charlie Kimball (1), Josef Newgarden (1), Simon Pagenaud (1), Graham Rahal (1), and Alexander Rossi (1). The active Top 5 in laps led at the venue are Dixon (261), Will Power (139), Newgarden (89), Power (99), Rossi (66), and Pagenaud (37). The two most recent winners are Dixon and Rossi. Looking at the box scores from 2019 and 2018, only Dixon, Power, and Rossi have finished in the Top 5 in each of the last two races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, that trio is joined by Ryan Hunter-Reay, Pagenaud, and Rahal.

My picks to win: Will Power & Alexander Rossi – It just seems to easy and obvious to go with Dixon and Newgarden this week, as likely as it probably is. I’m calling for a redemption storyline and for Power and Rossi to grab their first wins of the season after just rotten luck all year. Power especially has been fast all year but has experienced bad luck numerous times from winning positions. Rossi’s luck has been worse in that he’s barely been able to start races at times. That changes this weekend.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Felix Rosenqvist, Alexander Rossi, Colton Herta, & Alex Palou – Rosenqvist nearly won this race last year in a dramatic final lap duel with teammate Dixon and has continued to show speed on road courses all year long. Rossi, and Andretti as a whole, have been strong at Mid-Ohio and are due for a good race. This is a place where Rossi and the team can get a win. Based on that, I want the most consistent Andretti driver, Herta, in my lineup this week. Palou tested here last year and has had this race circled all year. Based on his impressive speed at said test, and what he’s show on road courses this year, this pick has tremendous value at just $20 this week.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Bommarito Automotive Group 500 – Race 1 Saturday, August 29, 2020 3:00PM (ET) NBCSN & Race 2 Sunday, August 30, 2020 3:00PM (ET) NBCSN – The NTT INDYCAR SERIES enters another doubleheader weekend after a busy two weeks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to a venue where the recent Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato won last year. Two races in the heat of the day in the Midwest sun will be a grueling experience for the teams, drivers, officials, and even fans as this event is traditionally raced at night.

Previous driver experience at World Wide Technology Raceway shows three former winners in the field in Josef Newgarden (1), Will Power (1), and Takuma Sato (1). The active Top 5 in laps led at the venue are Scott Dixon (223), Newgarden (220), Power (99), Santino Ferrucci (97), and Sato (65). The two most recent winners are Sato and Power. Looking at the box scores from 2019 and 2018, only Simon Pagenaud has finished in the Top 5 in each of the last two races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, Pagenaud is joined by Sato and Newgarden.

My picks to win: Will Power & Simon Pagenaud – The Team Penske cars have started on the first three rows of the grid in each of the past two races and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue. We know the Penske cars are fast everywhere and that seems to be especially true at Gateway. I look for Will Power to get his first win of 2020 and Simon Pagenaud to win as well.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Will Power, Takuma Sato, Tony Kanaan, & Alex Palou – You know my thoughts on Power. It’s too tough to get two Penske drivers into your team without seeing practice, but still may be the way to go with a few $21 options. I like Takuma Sato this weekend hot off his 500 win and previous history at this track. Tony Kanaan should provide good value with his experience on ovals and ability to take advantage of any opportunities that may fall his way. I like Palou the most out of the “budget” options as he’s been fast everywhere and really seems to enjoy the challenge of ovals. His Dale Coyne Racing team has been good here.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Preview: Iowa INDYCAR 250s – Race 1 Friday, July 17, 2020 8:30PM (ET) NBCSN & Race 2 Sunday, July 18, 2020 8:30PM (ET) NBCSN – Fans will be in attendance for the second weekend this season as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES enters its second consecutive doubleheader weekend at perhaps the most physical circuit of the year. The two biggest storylines of the weekend, besides the doubleheader itself, will be whether Ganassi can keep up its perfect record to start the year after 3 wins by Scott Dixon and 1 win for Felix Rosenqvist and just how dominant Josef Newgarden can be as he’s owned Iowa in recent years and will be eager to make up for his error to throw away Race 1 at Road America.

The active Top 5 in laps led are Newgarden (868), Kanaan (523), Will Power (129), Dixon (128), and Andretti (94). Looking at the box scores from 2019 and 2018, only Newgarden has finished in the Top 5 in each of the last two races. If that’s expanded to the Top 10, Newgarden is joined by Pagenaud, Rossi, and Rahal.

My picks to win: Josef Newgarden & Simon Pagenaud – The Team Penske cars have started on the first two rows of the grid in each of the past two races and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue. As dominant as Newgarden has been both with Ed Carpenter Racing and now Team Penske, it would be almost silly not to pick him for at least one win this weekend. Pagenaud hasn’t had the best qualifying luck to this point this year, but has raced well and may just sneak his first win at Iowa this weekend.

My fantasy.indycar.com picks: Simon Pagenaud, Alexander Rossi, Tony Kanaan, & Oliver Askew – You know my thoughts on Pagenaud and Newgarden is too difficult to build a pre-qualifying team around at $31. Rossi has finished well at Iowa and may be back on track after a podium finish in Race 2 at Road America. TK has shown improved speed with Foyt over the last 12 months and will no doubt be a threat for a Top 10 or even Top 5 finish. Watch out for the Arrow McLaren SP rookies this weekend the former SPM cars were always quick at Iowa and each of these two rookies knew how to put on a show on ovals in Indy Lights.
